Watford Swimming
and Water Polo Club
The
Club
Watford Swimming and
Water Polo Club was established in 1901 and is based in Watford,
Hertfordshire, England. Originally meeting at the river in the lower part of
Watford, near Bushey Arches. In 1932 we moved to the Watford Central Baths, which
at the time was the only municipal covered pool in the county until after the
war. Watford council are now building two new 25m pools which the club will be using as
their base. The Club is affiliated to the "Eastern Region Amateur Swimming Association"
and the "Hertfordshire Amateur Swimming Association". There is also a polo club
which is affiliated to L.W.P.L, ERASA and the Herts ASA. Watford's colours are
Red and Blue.
The
Aims
The club aims to
promote swimming locally, in an atmosphere where all swimmers can experience the
fun of competition and reach their full potential. Swimmers will be able to
compete at their own ability level and go as far as possible from club to county
to national standard and beyond. Watford club provides an atmosphere where
members will find swimming an enjoyable and sociable experience, where the club
will become a way of life and members will find friends for life. As well as
the swimming side of the club there is a good social side with trips, discos,
evenings out etc as well as open meets away in which there is time for fun after
the swimming is over.
Location
The club uses several pool around the
Watford area until two new pools are build. The pools are in North Watford at
the Bill Everett Centre, Rickmansworth School, Rickmansworth and Westfield School, Watford. There is also a Saturday swim
school for beginners, this is held at Rickmansworth School, Rickmansworth.

Parents/Swimmers
As agreed at the Annual General Meeting last month there will not be
any fee increases for 2008. In error the wrong sheet was photocopied
and handed out at the meeting which needs to disregarded. Please see
the fee structure on the website for the correct amounts as per last
year. Apologies for any misunderstanding and thanks to the eagle
eyed parent that brought this to my attention to rectify.

Under ASA Club Regulations the swimming club has to appoint a welfare officer. This person is responsible for recording any accidents and incidents that occur to swimmers during swim sessions. They are also the clubs named child protection lead.
If you have any concerns with any aspect of your childs welfare whilst attending swimming sessions or other events organised by the club then you can wither speak to the coach in charge of the session or contact the welfare officer:

Watford Swimming Club operates the a badge scheme. Individual swimmers times recorded at a gala run under Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) rules, qualify the swimmer for a badge. Target times for each event and pool length are posted on the notice board. The swimmer is encouraged to enter in the log all personal best times whether or not they qualify for a badge.
The badge scheme acts as a personal award scheme and is also an incentive for swimmers to try and achieve better results for themselves.
Badges can be sewn onto the back of the swimming club T bag style red and blue T-shirt which are worn at galas and on club championship evenings.
Justine Chung operates the badge scheme and is usually available on poolside for swimmers to purchase the badges from. She receives results from all galas the Club takes part in and will need to verify swimmers results before badges are awarded.
