Well that was fun!
On Saturday night, Watford swimming club took part and hosted the first round of this year’s Arena league. For those of you who don't know what the arena league is, it is a National Club Competition. All over the country clubs compete against each other swimming the same programme of races. The more points that a club scores in each round the higher up the league they place, similar to the football leagues.

Anyway back to the swimming!

I'm very pleased to say that Watford won by over 30 points. .... beating Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamstead, Leander, Harpenden to name a few.
We started the gala with our two Senior Club Captains (Sophie and Harrison) leading the cheers and competing in the 200IM. Both set the fantastic standard of how our club was going to swim this night. VERY  VERY FAST!!.
Next came the 1st set of relays and out of 8 Relays Watford won 4 of them and closely challenged  in the other 4. Gret Team Swimming.
After this great start, there was no looking back for Watford. We kept on winning or placing top 3 consistently ensuring that we kept  our ever increasing points lead over the other competing clubs.
What was most pleasing for me was the support every swimmer was giving to their fellow team mates. We were certainly the loudest team  this night, not just in sound but in colour too (some good use of face and body paints).
By the time we came to the last set of relays, the win was not in doubt but that did not stop the swimmers from being even louder and faster.

Final points tally was:
Watford 277
Leander 246
Saxon 233
Potters bat 220
Hemel 209
Berkhamstead 206
Greenwich 201
Harpenden 197.

My star swimmers of the night were Ashley (welcome back!) Holness- Wright and Sophie Burns. These swimmers not only swam to a high standard but showed what a good level of consistant training can do. To be honest though,  the whole team were Superstars.
The next round takes place on Saturday 12th November at Luton. The team sheet will be out early next week and  if selected please make every effort to attend.
Well done to everyone who was involved (especially the officials) and I look forward to seeing us do even better in the round 2.

A Special mention goes out to all our Parent Helpers who again without a doubt, we couldn't run these types of events. Give yourself a huge round of applause and keep up your fantastic work for your club. It is very very much appreciated.
