This past weekend saw our Watford swimmers take part in the East region winter championships at Norwich. This would normally be a short course meet and a bit later in the season, but due to the commonwealth games trials, it was turned into a long course meet . This is not the same as the summer regionals, there is only 1 age group. So every swimmer is competing against each other (I.e 13yrs v 21yr olds)
We had 12 swimmers competing over a wide range of events over the 3 days.
Ethan Sutton started us off on Friday evening with the 1500fc. Ethan swam a big pb taking him from 29th seed to 17th, plus taking an age group club record.
Over the rest of the weekend, we had swimmers competing in events 50fly up to 400 im and everything in between.
Erin swam a big pb in the 200im which saw her qualify for the final in 8th place. In the final she stepped up and finished a very impressive 7th. Erin also swam in a number of other races over the weekend, she swam really well and produced some good pb's.
Sophie, Francesca, Madeleine and Emily also swam strong races in which they all produced good times and improved on their entry rankings.
The sprint boys (Ashley, Harrison and Marcus), competed over 50m and 100m in their best strokes. What was pleasing to see, by these three swimmers was how strong they finished their races. Marcus and Harrison also swam in the 200im, in which they both swam well and showed some impressive race skills.
Devesh, Ketan and Lewis competed in the middle distance races (200m, 400m). Devesh swam a big pb in the 400im and 50fly plus a strong 200fly. Again, he improved on his entry rankings. Ketan (200bk) and Lewis (200br) both went out strong. Ketan improved his entry ranking and finished bang on his pb. Lewis led his race from the start and produced a big pb.
Over all, I was very happy with how our swimmers did at this meet (considering the timing of the meet) and I look forward to a great arena league next weekend and our end of year meets- finishing 2017 on a high.

Alex Kemp and Louis Hines represented the club at Masters National Championships held at Ponds Forge , Sheffield .27th Oct - 29th Oct.
Louis Hines swam a strong 1500m Freestyle on the Friday finishing 3rd in the 18/24 y/o age group knocking 7 seconds off his time to record a new PB 17.55.93 and followed up with a 400m Freestyle just outside his PB on the Saturday. Hat's off to Mark Hines for his driving back and forwards to Sheffield and coaching poolside.
Alex Kemp swam 5 events also in the 18/24 y/o age group spread over the weekend . 50m Freestyle & 100m Breaststroke saw Alex swim strongly but just outside his PB's. 50m Fly brought a smile with a new PB in the afternoon. Sunday morning saw Alex finish 0.01 outside his 100m Freestyle and in the afternoon miss out on a PB in 50m Breaststroke. Was he put off by Lawrance Palmer in the heat before him setting a NEW WORLD Masters Record with 26.99 ... you can ask him !

Last Friday a number of swimmers from Watford Swimming Club were invited along to the MARU design studios which are based in Hemel Hempstead
Whilst there the swimmers met with both the owner and  the Director of marketing and merchandising design. The process from design phase to manufacturing was explained, which we all found particularly interesting. Our swimmers were among the first to see the Autumn 2018 collection and their views and comments were sought by MARU on these collection designs. After viewing the forthcoming collections our swimmers were invited on a tour of the studio where the fabric is turned into the final product design.

The club would like to thank MARU for this informative and intersting visit and in particular a big thank you to Lisa Crossley and hope that the club will be invited back in the near future
.
As always a big thank you to those who came along and acted as great ambassadors for the club.

Hertfordshire ASA took part in this year’s National Inter County Team Competition held in Sheffield at the weekend. It is when all of the counties within England come together for a head to head competition, with individual races swum over 100m and team relays. The competition is split into two divisions and Herts competed in division Two. Three of Watford Swimming Club members took part, Harriet Clements, Erin O'Meara and Ben Green. Herts swam well against very tough oposition and maintained a strong position throughout finishing in 7th place.
