Swimming Leagues and Galas
The London League
The swimming club enters one team into the London League; the League operates on a points basis. Points are awarded over three galas one per month usually between October and December. The team is selected by the team managers. Definite dates can be found by following the link on this web site.
The swimming club enters two teams into the Herts League. The A team are in Division 1 and the B team are in Division 2. The team managers select the teams and one team manager will be responsible for each of the galas.
The Herts League also operates on a points basis, awarded over three galas. The league runs in February and March and dates can be found by following the link on this website.
The more junior swimmers are entered into the Peanuts League, which is also a Hertfordshire event. We enter one team into the league and the team is selected by the team managers. The Peanuts League runs in April and May.
Novice galas are arranged throughout the year with other local swimming clubs. The offer the opportunity for swimmers to enter a competitive gala run under ASA rules. These galas are run at Bill Everett on a Sunday Evening and if a gala is on normal swimming training does not occur. Notice is given of the Novice galas on the newsletter and on the notice board. The team managers select the team.
The club champs are to be sorted out soon while the two new pools are being built. When club champs are on normal training sessions are suspended. Club champs offers often the first experience for s swimmer to swim competitively under ASA rules. Swimmers are encouraged to enter club champs to identify personal best times for each stroke over different distances, and also to ensure they are able to swim each stroke in line with ASA regulations and not be disqualified. This is an excellent testing ground for the young inexperienced swimmer.

Kit required at galas
It is expected that when swimmers are representing the swimming club, they will have the following kit with them on poolside:
Watford Swimming Club swim hat
2 swimming costumes, 1 spare for emergencies
2 pairs of goggles
Watford Swimming Club T Shirt (either ‘T’ Bag style or polo shirt)
Full drinking bottle
High energy food e.g. jelly beans or similar
