Watford secured a Winter League cup double over local rivals Hatfield on
Monday night, following on from the sides recent win in the Invitation Knockout
Cup Quarter Final, Watford won a tightly fought contest 5-4 to progress into the
semi-finals of the Winter League Senior Knockout Cup and they will now take on
fellow Division One side Hornchurch away on the 13th January.
The game opened with both sides determined to gain the upper hand first but a
combination of good defending, bad shooting and some fine saves from both
keepers meant the opening quarter closed at 0-0.
The second period began with Watford taking the lead through Junior Captain Adam
Collins, Watford then had further chances to extend the lead but again a mixture
of poor shooting and Hatfield’s Hungarian goalkeeper in excellent form kept the
score at 1-0 but with half time approaching Hatfield stepped up the pace and
within an excellent two minute spell they had grabbed the lead at 2-1 thanks to
a brace from the home side’s Peter Mole.
The third period opened with Watford gaining parity at 2-2 an inch perfect pass
from Watford’s Andy Strong played Collins in and he made no mistake for his
second goal of the night. Minutes later further Watford pressure forced the home
side into conceding a major foul and from the man-up advantage Lee Bell put his
side back in front at 3-2.
The final period saw Watford extend their lead to 5-2 this within two minutes of
the quarter starting. The first came from Andy Strong again the hosts committed
a major foul and with an extra man in the pool Watford took advantage. The fifth
was scored by Roy Coulson and was the best goal of the evening a three man move
started with Lee Bell who passed across pitch to Collins his first time pass to
Coulson caught the hosts napping and gave Coulson the time and space to score
from five metres.
Hatfield made a late rally with two quick fire goals to move the score to 4-5
and with time running out Watford had to rely on further good defending from the
whole team to survive a nerve jangling few moments.

Watford progressed through to the Semi-final stage of the Winter league
Invitation Handicap Knockout Cup were they will take on Enfield after a
comfortable home win against Hatfield on Wednesday night winning 11-2.
The game was all one way traffic as Watford took the game by the scruff of the
neck in the opening quarter to charge into a four goal lead thanks to a brace
from Nick Ginty and solo efforts from Captain Drago Dundjerovic and Roy Coulson.
The second period proved to be more cat and mouse as each side had to work hard
to find the opening in the oppositions defence and it was the hosts who managed
to force the visitors into conceding a major foul after two minutes play from
the man-up advantage Jason Lucas found room on the left flank to score from two
metres. The visitors hit back moments later when Dundjerovic committed a major
foul and Hatfield’s Simon Viney found the back of the Watford net for a half
time score of 5-1 to Watford.
The third period again followed in the same vein as the previous quarter with
both sides having to work hard to find the openings but Watford proved the
stronger as their increased their lead by a further two goals thanks to strikes
from Ginty this to complete his hat-trick and a second from Lucas. 7-1.
The final period proved to be all one way traffic for the hosts as they ran in
a further five goals to Hatfield’s one to complete an impressive evening and run
out winners 11-2, the goal scorers were Adam Collins, Lucas, Ginty and a brace
for Coulson.
Coach John Martin Dye summed up the evening by saying “the team played
extremely well and outplayed Hatfield in every department, with several first
team players missing, the players that came into the side preformed at their
best level”.

Watford salvaged some pride from a dreadful season by securing the Herts Cup
on Monday night beating arch rivals Bedford by the narrowest of margins 11-10.
Watford entered the game 1-2 behind based on the handicap scores and very nearly
lost the game in the final quarter as Bedford hit back to within a two goal
margin, however the Herts based club hung on to secure their first Herts Cup
success since 1980 and stopped Bedford from retaining the cup for the sixth year
in a row.
The game opened with Watford conceding a major-foul after only 40 seconds but a
strong rearguard action prevented Bedford from opening the scoring. With two
minutes on the clock Watford’s Richard Hime found space on the wing and his well
executed shot gave his side the lead. Bedford hit back soon after to level at
one a piece however further Watford pressure resulted in a man-up and from this
advantage Lee Bell put his side back in front at 2-1 but with the quarter coming
to a close Bedford again managed to level the scores at 2 each.
The second & third periods proved to be Watford’s strongest and within two
minutes of the second period starting Watford had established a 5-2 lead thanks
to goals from Mico Pavlovic, James Kattan and a second from Bell. Bedford hit
back moments later but a second from Pavlovic maintained his sides lead at 6-3.
The third period again opened with Watford in dominant mood and soon extended
their lead to 8-3 thanks to a brace from Tom Perry but Bedford hit back shortly
after however with the quarter coming to a close Watford broke up a Bedford
attack and the ball was feed out to Kattan who swam in on goal to score from
three metres to give his side a 9-4 lead at the end of the third period.
The final period
opened with Bedford determined to get back in the game and after four minutes
play they had scored three goals to reduce the score to 9-7 with Watford
starting to wobble Watford’s Neil Haftel committed a major foul however Bedford
were unable to take advantage of the man-up situation

Watford needing to beat
Beckenham on Tuesday night to avoid relegation from the Premier Division of the
London League failed to capitalise on a winning situation having lead the game
at half-time 5-2 and critically 8-6 in the final period. The game ended all
square at nine apiece and Beckenham were the happier after sending their league
colleagues down into the first Division for next season.
The game got under way with Watford in determined mood to claim a vital win and
at the end of the first quarter Watford lead 3-1 having seen the hosts open the
scoring. Watford’s Paul Skerm John Barnes and Richard Hime claiming the vital
goals.
The second period opened with Beckenham hitting back however further strikes
from Hime & Skerm secured their team a 5-2 lead at the half way point.
The third period was a disaster for the visitors as they were unable to cope
with Beckenham’s more phyical style and before Watford had time to breather they
were 6-5 down. However with time running out Skerm managed to find time and
space on the wing to receive a pass and his accurate shot level the game at 6-6.
Watford opened up a two goal lead at the start of the final period thanks to
Skerm & Hime again however the visitors again failed to deal with Beckenham’s
attack and moments later the game was once again all square at 8 all. Again
Watford moved back in front when a man-up gave Richard Hime a chance but with
time running out Beckenham again leveled at 9 all however one final chance fell
to Skerm but his shot when wide of the far post and with it when Watford’s
chance of Premiership survival.

Watford progressed to the final of the Herts Cup Final on Wednesday after
beating Hertford 9-3. The hosts needed to over turn a five goal deficit under
Handicap rules and it wasn’t until the start of the third quarter that Watford
managed to move in front. Watford will now meet either Bedford or Biggleswade in
the final to be held on the 1st November at Hatfield town centre
pool.
The game began with the hosts winning a penalty after only a minutes play and
Watford’s Mico Pavlovic had no trouble putting his team one up, moments later
Watford won another man-up situation & from this advantage Pavlovic grabbed his
second of the night. The quarter ended with Neil Haftel moving his side three
goals in front.
The second period opened with Hertford determined to make a mark on the game and
a combination of good goalkeeping and poor shooting only kept the visitors from
making the score sheet. However Hertford couldn’t prevent Watford from extending
their lead and with both Jason Lucas and another goal from Haftel they extended
the team’s lead to 5-0. But as half time approached the visitors managed to break
through the home defence for their first goal of the night. 5-1 half time score.
Watford opened the third period with a quick brace from Captain Richard Hime the
second of his two strikes moved his side 7-1 in front on the night 7-6 overall.
Another goal from Pavlovic this to complete his hat-trick had Watford 8-6 up at
the end of the quarter.
The final period opened with Hertford pulling a goal back for 8-7 however the
visitors committed a major foul two minutes later and from this man up advantage
Lucas grabbed his second of the night and give his team some breathing space.
However moments later Hertford grabbed their third but with the clock ticking
down Watford regained control of the ball and ran the clock down to move through
to the final on the 1st November.

Watford all but surrendered the
Herts league title they have held for the past three years with two shock
defeats in the last week. With four games to go for both Watford & current
league leaders Bedford, next week’s game at home to Bedford has a must need ring
to it for the Hertfordshire side.
Watford slumped to a narrow defeat last Thursday when they went down 4-5 to
Cambridge several excellent chances & a missed penalty from Captain Richard Hime
in the final quarter could have given Watford the victory there play deserved
but it wasn’t to be.
The game opened with Cambridge racing into a 3-1 lead, Watford had pulled level
at 1-1 through Hime but the early exchanges when to Cambridge.
In the second period Watford had pulled level at 3-3 thanks to goals from James
McMaster and Neil Haftel but a goal from the home side with seconds of the half
remaining gave Cambridge the lead again at 4-3.
The third period saw Watford go close on several occasions but it was the hosts
who found the net for the only goal of the quarter to extend their lead to 5-3.
The final period saw Watford step up a gear and after only 30 seconds play Hime
found time & space to receive a pass from Drago Dunjerovic to score from five
metres, further chances fell to the Watford forwards but some excellent
goalkeeping and desperate defending kept the visitors at bay. The next attack
produced a penalty for Watford but the normally deadly Hime in front of goal saw
his shot saved by the Cambridge keeper and with it when Watford’s chances of
winning a match they deserved to win.
On Monday Watford travelled to
Biggleswade and again failed to pickup a win going down 7-4, The visitors were
trailing at the half way stage 4-1, Neil Haftel getting on the scoresheet for
Watford.
A two goal salvo from Drago Dundjerovic pulled his side to within a goal in the
third period but poor defending allowed the hosts back in to close the quarter
at 6-3.
The final period saw Watford score first thanks to a wonderful timed lob shot
from Phil Green but again Biggleswade came back to maintain their three goal
lead and some dogged defending from the home side saw them take the game and
deal Watford a huge blow in their title aspirations and to make all it all the
more painful for Watford this was Biggleswade’s first win over Watford in the
Herts league for four years.

Watford moved to the top of the Herts League with a less then
impressive win away to Hertford last Wednesday evening,
Missing ten first team regulars
due to holidays and work commitments Watford had to rely on a mixture of 1st
& 2nd team players, two recent signings and Junior Captain Adam
Collins to make up the team. And it was Collins who provided the firepower to
win the game for Watford by claiming a first half hat-trick.
The opening period saw Watford moved into an early two goal lead thanks to a
brace from Collins however Watford’s inexperienced line-up wasn’t gelling and
Hertford created several opening but poor finishing allowed the visitors off the
hook.
The second period saw the hosts again create a number of chances and from one of
these Hertford’s Ian Hart managed to force the ball home for a 2-1 scoreline.
However as half-time approached Junior Captain Adam Collins was again in the
right place at the right time to score his third of the night and more
importantly restore his side’s two goal advantage at the half way point.
The third quarter proved to be a dull affair with neither side producing a
notable scoring chance.
The final period opened with the hosts determined to capitalise on the weaken
opposition and after only a minutes play’s Hertford’s Hart managed to find some
free space and from five metres his powerful shot found the bottom corner of the
net to move the score onto 3-2. Sensing a rare victory Hertford pressed forward
in search of the required goals but when Watford managed to break up an attack
the ball was feed wide to Collins who’s turn of pace gave him the time to make a
cross pitch pass to the unmarked Will Charnock, and he made no mistake from four
metres to claim his first goal for the club and secure a victory that was in
doubt moments earlier.

had equalized to end the first quarter level at 1-1.
The second quarter began with both teams going flat out to score more then their

half-time 5-4. The pick of the goals was Phil Green’s lob shot from five metres
to deceive the Harlow keeper other Watford strikes came from Drago Dundjerovic,

Watford
slumped to their four defeat in a row in the London League Premier Division on
Wednesday night when they went down 12-7 to Hornchurch. Watford needing a
victory to gave themselves a chance of survival were in the game up until the
middle of the second quarter but then Hornchurch’s Ex-England Captain Tony Croft
took control of the game for his side to record an easy win.
Watford began the game in bullish fashion taking the
lead with a goal from Paul Skerm however the visitors weren’t to be out done and
within 30 seconds had leveled via Tony Croft back came Watford and again Skerm
was on hand to put a rebound off the bar into an empty net for 2-1 but with only
seconds remaining Eastman for the visitors leveled things up again at 2-2.
The
second period opened with Watford again snatching the lead via Skerm this for
him to complete his hat-trick however another goal from that man Croft also for
his hat-trick had the scores at 3-3. However this was the last time Watford were
to get near the visitors and with a further three goals they reached half-time
leading 6-3.
The third period saw Hornchurch extend their lead to
8-3 before Watford’s Captain Drago Dundjerovic found the net from seven metres
to move the score on to 8-4 however another two goals from Croft these for his
fifth & sixth of the night extended his team’s lead to 10-4.
The final period opened with Watford winning a major foul and from the man-up
Mark Cuthbert found room to score, back came Hornchurch and again Croft with
his seventh of the night he maintained his team’s lead at 11-5. Again Watford
hit back shortly after via Skerm for a 11-6 scoreline however within seconds
Hornchurch had bagged another goal for 12-6. Then with only seconds remaining
Watford gained another Man-up and from this advantage Watford’s Ben Dollard
scored to give his side a moral boosting final quarter win at 3-2 but it was
never nearly enough as the team lost 12-7. Watford will now have to win both
games against Beckenham to give themselves a chance of survival.

Watford’s miserable week continued on Monday
evening when they went down 15-10 away to third placed Sutton & Cheam in the
Premier Division of the London League. Again missing key personnel in Richard
Hime, Graham Martin-Dye & Mico Pavlovic proved to be the club’s undoing as
Sutton fielding a team containing two current England International’s in Chris
Evans & Mark Bayliss ran the show from start to finish.
Watford now need a win at home to Hornchurch next Wednesday to kick start their
campaign and give themselves a chance of Premier Division survival.
The evening opened with Sutton winning the first quarter 5-2, Bayliss for the
home side doing the damage with a hat-trick, Watford’s Paul Skerm hitting a
brace.
The second quarter saw Watford hit back with two quick goals for a 5-4 deficit,
Skerm was the danger man with some fine approach play as Ian Meiers & Lee Bell
set the chances up for their colleague. Sutton restored their two goal advantage
moments later but then a well taken brace from Meiers pulled his side back to
within a goal at 7-6 however as half time approached Sutton’s Bayliss hit his
fourth of the night to give his side the lead at 8-6.
The
third period opened with a game of tit-for-tat as each side traded goals to move
the scoring onto 10-9, Skerm again getting on the sheet for his sixth & seventh
goals of the evening and Meiers getting a second. However Sutton then took the
game by the scuff of the neck to run in three unanswered goals to establish a
12-9 lead going into the final period.
The final period again opened with both sides trading
goals to move the score on to 13-10, Watford’s Skerm getting his eighth of the
evening however Watford then ran out of steam & Sutton cemented their advantage
with two further goals for a 15-10 winning margin.
Last Sunday Watford’s Under
18’s compete in the second round of the George Cohen Cup when they travelled to
St Paul’s School to take on Hammersmith Penguin, Croydon Amphibian’s second team
and Maccabi.
Watford lost to
both Penguin 9-4 and Croydon 8-6 and only picked up points against Maccabi as
they failed to field a team for the afternoon.
In the opening game of the afternoon against Penguin, Junior Captain Adam
Collins scored all of his team’s four goals. In the second game Collins again
lead the way with a hat-trick, Roy Coulson waded in with a brace and Roy Schey
also got on the score-sheet however Watford still lost 8-6 having lead the game
at half-time 4-2.

Watford failed to beat Hammersmith Penguin on
Wednesday night and are now bottom of the London League Premier Division after
having played 3 games. This season was always going to be tough without
influential England International Graham Martin-Dye but missing key players
Richard Hime following knee surgery which keeps him out for four weeks, Ian
Meiers & Mico Pavlovic for Wednesday’s clash against Penguin proved too much and
Watford fell to a heavy 20-4 defeat.
Watford managed a score in each quarter but the boys from Hammersmith were in a
class of their own and always looked in control. Penguin opened the scoring
after only 59 seconds, Watford’s Paul Skerm leveled matter’s 2 minutes later
however this was the closes that the hosts would get as Penguin closed the
quarter leading 3-1.
The second quarter saw the visitors race into a 7-1 lead before Drago Dunjerovic
gave his side a little cheer with a goal from two metres however another Penguin
goal moved the score on to 8-2 at half-time.
The third quarter saw Penguin again score first before a major foul by the
visiting keeper Ian Grimwood gave the hosts a chance to pull a goal back and
Junior Captain Adam Collins took his chance for a 2-10 scoreline. However
Penguin were soon back on the goal trail and closed the quarter with two further
goals for a 12-3 lead.
The final period was all one way traffic as the visitors stepped up a gear and
their class showed as they ran in nine goals, before a half chance fell to Lee
Bell who took his goal well. But it was all too little too late as Penguin ran
out 20-4 worthy winners.
Last Saturday Watford retained
the Biggleswade Annual Tournament trophy after beating Harlow in the final (4-3
aet), Watford won with goals from Lee Bell (2), Paul Skerm & Richard Hime.
Beating Harlow in the final was sweet revenge, as Watford had lost to them in
the opening group game of the evening losing (3-2). However an excellent win
against Thetford (6-3) put the holders of the competition into the Semi-Finals
were they took on the hosts Biggleswade winning this game (5-4 again after extra
time).

Watford kept up the pressure on league leaders
Bedford with another hard fought home win on Wednesday night beating local
rivals Hatfield 11-7. Watford struggled for many periods during the game by
letting their rivals back in the frame at crucial periods, having established a
comfortable 7-3 half-time lead, Watford then allowed Hatfield to move within a
goal going into the last quarter. However Watford held their nerve and with four
goals in the final period they won the contest 11-7.
Watford began the evening with a goal from Captain Richard Hime after only 51
seconds an excellent pass from Paul Skerm setting up the chance and 30 seconds
later the same combination unlock the Hatfield defence for a 2-0 lead. However
from the restart the visitors applied pressure on the home defence and a half
chance from five metres from Dennis Nelson beat stand-in keeper Ian Meiers for a
2-1 scoreline. With the first quarter coming to a close Watford’s Neil Haftel
squeezed a shot from close range into the visitor’s net for a 3-1 lead.
The second period opened with Hatfield winning the ball from the restart and a
quick pass to Nelson who was seven metres out saw his shot go in off the far
post for 3-2 and moments later Nelson again had the ball in the back of the
Watford net to level the scores at 3-3. At this point coach John martin-Dye made
some telling chances and with the fresh swimmers in the water Watford powered
into a 7-3 half-time lead a brace from Skerm and goals from Ben Dollard and Luke
Rogers doing the damage.
The third period saw Hatfield take control of the game and a three goal burst in
as many minutes pulled the visitors to within a goal of leveling the game.
Watford did have chances but good goalkeeping and some desperate defending
keeping Watford at bay. 7-6.
During the quarter break coach Martin-Dye freshen things up by putting his first
team players back in the water for the final critical period and this done the
trick as within 22 seconds of the final period starting Adam Collins had the
ball in the net for an 8-6 lead, moments later Watford won a major foul and from
the man-up advantage Hime completed his hat—trick for 9-6. Hatfield then hit
back when a man up from then allowed Colin Giblen to score but Watford weren’t
to be denied and with further goals from Hime and Haftel they ran out winners
11-7.

Watford
moved back to the top of the Herts league after a hard fought victory on
Wednesday night against Biggleswade winning the match 9-6.
The hosts dominated the proceedings in the opening quarter but only had the one
goal to show for all their efforts this was scored by Watford’s leading goal
scorer James Kattan. Further strikes on the visitor’s goal were kept out by some
dogged defending and some fine saves from Biggleswade keeper Martin Grays.
The second quarter was turned on its head as Biggleswade won the quarter 4-2 to
take a half time lead by a solitary goal at 4-3,all four of the visitors goals
coming from Simon Gregory, Watford’s James McMaster finding the net for his
side.
The third quarter saw Watford in a far more determined mood and an early strike
from Roy Coulson after he had pick-up on a Mico Pavlovic rebound had his team
back on level terms at 4-4. The visitors then had a man sent out for a major
foul and from the man up advantage Watford worked an opening for Pavlovic to
score from four metres (5-4). As the quarter came to a close Kattan found
himself in space and after receiving a long pass from Captain Drago Dunjerovic
he rounded the keeper to fire into an empty net for a 6-4 lead.
The final period saw Watford extend their lead with a goal from Mark Cuthbert
again excellent work from the Watford forwards gave Cuthbert the time and space
to pick his spot for a 7-4 lead. Biggleswade hit back after a poor defensive
clearance gave the visitors a chance (7-5) however Watford weren’t to be denied
the victory their deserved and with two final goals in the last few minutes play
these sandwiched between another Biggleswade strike the goals coming from Kattan
for his hat-trick and a second from Cuthbert to record a brace enabled their
side to run out winners 9-6 and claim top spot in the hunt for Watford’s fourth
Herts league title in a row.

Watford Water Polo Club played their second
competitive game of this season’s London league campaign on Wednesday night
against current league leaders Otter and failed to win going down 10-5.
Watford kept the league leaders at bay by maintaining parity throughout the
opening period and by half-time the score had reached 3-3, all Watford’s strikes
coming from in-form captain Richard Hime.
Hime opened the evening’s event by scoring after only 9 seconds on the clock his
powerful shot from Marko Milos’s pass beat the Otter keeper at the near post
however the visitors soon responded and within a minute had leveled at 1-1.
Watford moved back in front with another goal from Hime but a mistake in the
home defence again allowed Otter to level at 2-2.
The second period opened again with Hime off the mark early to complete his
hat-trick however further chances for the home side weren’t converted and with
only 30 seconds of the half remaining an Otter attack was rewarded when they
scored to level again at 3-3.
The third period opened with otter moving in front at 3-4 however Hime once
again restored parity at 4-4 with his fourth of the night. But from this moment
on Otter grabbed the game by the scuff of the neck and took control to run in a
further six goals without reply. With the score now at 4-10 to the visitors
Watford’s Mico Pavlovic was given too much room and his shot found the back of
the Otter goal however this was too little too late and Otter ran out worthy
winners and maintained their 100% winning start to the season.

in the Herts league on Wednesday night with a comfortable win at home to
Hertford. Watford won each quarter and never looked in trouble as the team
managed to get their defence of the Herts league back on track following the
defeat at home to Cambridge two weeks ago.
Watford opened the first quarter with a goal from leading goal scorer James

The second period again saw Kattan find the back of the Hertford net early this
after only 33 seconds play to record his hat-trick however Hertford managed to
find a way through the home defence shortly after to pull the scores to 4-1.
Watford then stepped up a gear and with goals from Roy Coulson and Captain
Richard Hime they extended their lead to 6-1 and as half time approached a
mistake allowed the visitors a sight of goal and the chance was taken for a 6-2
score line.
The third period saw an early exchange of goals for both sides with Watford’s

stamped their authority on the game and with a further three goals from Meiers,
Coulson and that man Kattan they extended the their team’s lead to 10-3.

Watford Water Polo Club opened their London
league campaign with a disappointing 9 all draw on Wednesday night having lead
the first quarter by three goals, Watford failed to capitalise on this lead and
were by the close hanging on for a draw.
The game opened with Watford storming into a three goal lead with Pavlovic,
Dunjerovic and Hime finding the Sutton goal without reply however a major foul
by Watford’s Lee Bell gave the visitor’s a chance and their took it to register
their first goal of the evening. Watford hit back shortly after to restore the
three goal margin thanks to an excellent finish by Ian Meiers but as the quarter
closed another major foul by Bell allowed Sutton back in to reduce the deficit
to 5-2.
The second quarter opened with Sutton in a determined mood and within two
minutes they had found the back of the Watford net twice to reduce Watford’s
lead to one goal however shortly after Bell made up for his early mistakes to
steal in at the far post to receive a pass from Richard Hime to give back his
side the two goal cushion. Watford then forced a major foul and from the man-up
increased their lead to 7-4 thanks to Paul Skerm however as the quarter came to
a close Sutton hit back to reduce the score to 7-5.
The third period opened with Watford conceding two major fouls the first was
dealt with effectively however the on the second man-down conceded by Dunjerovic
Sutton capitalised to again pull their side to with a goal at 7-6. Back came
Watford and Hime score another goal to restore the two goal margin however
Sutton weren’t to be denied and again slack marking allowed them to pull back to
with in a goal at 8-7.

side a draw.
Watford will be disappointed with only a draw as this season the challenge to
stay in the premier division will require Watford to perform at their best in
every fixture.

Watford began the game with an opening goal after only 40 seconds play when

Watford Water Polo Club
lost the winter league knockout Cup on Wednesday night even though they won the
second leg of the cup final, a 6-4 victory at home to Enfield wasn’t enough as
defeat in the first game plus needing to win the second leg by 10 clear goals
proved to must of a hurdle.
Watford opened the game in a determined fashion and by the end of the first
quarter had established a three nil lead, Richard Hime lead the way with a brace
and Paul Skerm added a third.
The second quarter was again all Watford’s but for all their possession and a
number of man up chances Watford could only increase their lead by one this goal
coming from Drago Dundjerovic.
The second half saw Watford needing a further six goals to win and this proved
to much as Enfield managed to exploit gaps in the home defence to register a
couple of goals of their own however as the quarter closed Watford’s Roy Coulson
found the time and space to move the score onto 4-1.
The final period began with Hime registering his hat-trick to take his team 5-1

the Enfield defence. As the game moved into the final period two late goals for
the away side effectively ended the contest and with it Watford’s chance of

Watford water Polo Club secured the winter league Division two title on
Wednesday night with a hard fought victory at home to Bexley.
In a game that had few chances and with both goalkeepers performing well it was
Watford that gain the upperhand in the opening quarter to lead by two clear
goals, Watford held on to this advantage for the remainder of the game to secure
the victory they so badly needed.
Watford opened the scoring after only a minute’s play, Richard Hime was left on
his own following a Bexley major foul and his shot on goal went in under the
keeper’s arms to register the first goal of the night. Bexley then carved out a
couple of good chances but both the Watford defence and keeper Steve Chambers
kept them at bay. Watford extended their lead when Paul Skerm received the ball
in front of goal and turning his man his powerful shot found the top corner
for a 2-0 lead.
Bexley hit back shortly after but with only 50 seconds of the quarter remaining
another Skerm goal gave his side a two goal advantage at 3-1.
The second quarter didn’t produce a single goal as some fine saves from both
keepers and some woefully shooting from the Watford attack kept the score at
3-1.
The third was a very even affair with a goal apiece from each side, Watford’s
came via Skerm for his hat-trick on the night after a minutes play, further
chances when begging for both sides until 30 seconds from the end of the quarter
an excellent shot from Bexley’s Dave Watson found the top corner of the Watford
net for a 4-2 scoreline.
The final period saw Bexley going for victory but again some fine saves from
Chambers in the Watford goal and some desperate defending from the Watford
defence kept the visitors at bay until with only with only a minutes play
remaining and victory in sight a half chance from Bexley looped over the
advancing Watford keeper to find the net for a 4-3 scoreline. Watford hit
straight back and within 15 seconds Roy Coulson found space on the wing and
receiving the ball from Richard Hime his powerful shot found the net for a 5-3
victory and with it the Division two title.

next Wednesday night in a game they must win to secure the Division two title

before Enfield hit back with two further goals, Pavlovic hit a second as the
teams reached half time level at 3-3.
